We are interested in developing robust sensors and gene circuits and applying them in directed evolution and screening. Specific areas include the creation of transcriptional reporters for the folding state of specific proteins in cells to enable continuous directed evolution of molecular chaperones, optimization of bacteria stress-responsive promoters for use as reporters for antibiotic discovery and characterization in whole cells, and development of new strategies for identifying genetically encodable small-molecule biosensors.
